Supposedly a satire, but tries, unsuccessfully, to portray Hitler as a fumbling nitwit. It doesn't work.
Hitler suddenly wakes in a Berlin park reeking of petrol and suffering a headache. A moment in 1945 ends in ...
A truly unusual concept for a novel, but very well done in details. The author, through,I believe, much research, has done a great portrayal of one of historys most notorious characters, and managed to bring to print a fine example of the banality of extreme evil.
This book was controversial in Germany when it was first published there, it was controversial in the U.K.
Even if you haven't read Ian Kershaw's or John Toland's biographies of Adolf Hitler you can catch up on enough history in a special chapter at the end of the book to make it a more joyful experience'.Look who's Back' is the only book I have ever read strait through twice.
"Look Who's Back" by Timur Vermes is a fictional (thankfully) account of the return of Hitler to life in present-day Berlin. This book is irreverent, satirical, and constantly makes comments on contemporary life.
I haven't read this book yet, but have recently ordered it. Him coming back reminded me instantly of this video: https://youtu.
A chilling perspective on our modern media-bloated world, where celebrity is worshipped and controversy and crime is glamourised.
I liked that the book pushed boundaries. Also that it showed how out of place / touch Hitler's ideology is and should be in the 21st century,.
Its a funny book, one with an insight into Hitler's thoughts and brain!.
Was ok, but a bit OTT in places, not one I would rave about but an interesting idea!.
This seemed like a fascinating idea for a story, but ultimately pretty disappointing. Not especially offensive, and not very funny, either.
Interesting political satire in which Hitler is exposed to the modern world. Resolution is a bit ham-fisted, but the entire book is pretty short and worth a read if you like pondering "what if" situations such as this.
Not as funny as I would've thought from the cover, but did enjoy most of it and there are some brilliant thought provoking lines in there.
One of my favorite books of the YEAR. What a provocative and daring novel this one.
